One day of Contact Improisation – basics spiced with backspace

We welcome Joerg Hassmann back to Brisbane following his European summertime tour! Joerg is one of the leading figures of Contact Improvisation in Europe with over 25 years teaching experience around the world. This September Joerg will be in Brisbane hosting a one day workshop at the beautiful Academy of Grounding on the theme ‘Basics Spiced with Backspace’.

‘Basics’ means that the workshop is accessible for new comers. Additionally and at the same time, it will have a satisfying depth and complexity for experienced practitioners – otherwise it wouldn’t be a base for this heart and mind opening dance form.
We will get in touch with essential Contact Improvisation questions such as, ‘How can I get into a flow while moving with this partner?’ and ‘How can I take weight without loosing the dance?’. Or ‘How can I give weight to this person?’ (especially when moving backwards, where we can’t see where we go). Some fear patterns of the body may show up and we can use these as an opportunity to grow trust for entering into new situations.

As always, I am curios to see where the learning happens: in specific exercises, or in the moments where we let go of expectations and allow the dance to take over. We will dance as much as possible. Maybe the dance will be simply to celebrate our aliveness.”
